Automated discounts Google Shopping

The Google Shopping network is a widely used advertising channel and therefore very competitive. One of the variables that has the biggest impact on the relevance of your product listing is the price and discounts you provide. Google is working on a new beta feature called automated discounts. In this blog article, we explain what it is, the criteria for participation and how it works.

What are automated discounts?

Automated discounts is a new beta feature that Google is testing in several countries. The purpose of the feature is to allow advertisers to achieve more conversions by using a more effective price. This is a price that remains acceptable to the advertiser but ensures that more sales and visibility can be realized, with the relevant products in the Google Shopping network. And that in a fully automated way which saves a lot of time compared to manual price optimizations.

Criteria for participation

Not all advertisers on Google Shopping are eligible for automated discounts. Google maintains the following criteria:

  • Minimum of 1,000 clicks on products per week.
  • Conversions tracking and feed configuration should be set.
  • The adjustments in terms of discounts should be processed on the website.
  • Google should be given the freedom to scale the display to 1%, 20%, 50% and over 50%.
If you as an advertiser meet this then you can sign up your Merchant Center for automated discounts here.

How does it work?

If your application is accepted you will get access within the Google Merchant Center to the “automated discounts” tab, this can be found under growth. Next, it is important to add the following to the product feed:

  • Minimum price of automatic prices: enter here the bottom price you want to use as the selling price. The advice is to always remain profitable and thus maintain a certain margin on the selling price.
Once that is done then the final step is to set up a URL integration. This is quite technical in nature and all the documentation falls here to find. The advice is to hire a web builder to implement this successfully. Once that is done Google will do a final review and approve your web shop.
